I was struck this morning by a familiar statement from Jesus:
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." -Matt 6:19-21
Are we looking for treasure (value) in a physical body, a home, a career, a material personality? Then we're storing up our treasure in the temporary -- all material structures will be destroyed or taken away at some point. Jesus indicates that that our heart will get hurt if we lean on material things/states of being for our joy. If instead of focusing on material what-have-you, we focus on gaining the right vision of Life (heaven), then our heart brightens and our desires are continually fulfilled. Listen to Jesus' next line.
"The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light." -Matt 6:22
Let's focus on gaining the ability to see abundance, goodness, health, peace in every situation. "Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God." When our heart cherishes right ideas, these ideas can never be stolen or taken away. Right ideas of life are our treasure and they give us the vision to experience the always-present God-given wholeness and health in every situation.
No one or no thing can take away our ability to see heaven -- the qualities of God in operation.
